MRI Scan - General Information

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a breakthrough in medical technology.
This examination is not invasive or painful, and does not require surgical intervention or use of x-radiation.

MRI generates a detailed image, which enables physicians to see, among other things, internal organs, blood vessels, muscles, joints, growths, and inflamed areas, and to diagnose physical changes in your body that cannot be detected by other means.

This examination enables the diagnosis of various diseases (including their early stages), and the formulation of a treatment plan for injuries and diseases. Mor-Mar's MRI apparatus (made by Phillips) is the most advanced in the field, enabling high-resolution images of superb quality to be generated.

Examination procedure
Prior to the examination, you will be asked to remove metal objects and jewelry.

The MRI examination is safe and is not painful.

There will be a qualified technician and a physician for the entire duration of the examination, and they will answer any question you may have. The most important thing that you can do is to be calm, and lie still.

The course of the examination
During the course of the examination, you will not feel pain or any unusual sensation. Some of the examinations require the injection of contrast material. This material does not contain iodine, and therefore almost never causes side-effects. No special preparation (such as fasting) is required.

Prior to the examination, you will receive ear-plugs and/or ear-phones. A coil will be placed on the part of your body that is to be scanned, and you will be asked to lie on a padded table that will move to position your body in the center of the apparatus. During the course of the examination, you will hear noises that sound like knocks or bangs of a hammer. These sounds are normal, and are not harmful in any way.

The duration of the examination ranges from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the type of examination your attending physician requested. A companion may be brought to the examination.
After the examination
At the end of the examination process, a CD containing all the details of the examination will be produced and given to the patient prior to his/her discharge. Normal activities may be resumed after the examination, unless you are instructed otherwise. If contrast material was injected during the examination, you should wait to be discharged by the shift physician. It is advisable to drink a lot, in order to facilitate the passing of the contrast material out of the body.

The results of your examination will be interpreted by one of Mor-Mar's expert radiologists. The results will be mailed to your home. In addition, you can contact Customer Service to have the results faxed to you. Mor-Mar makes every effort to provide you with the examination results as rapidly as possible.
